Hoboken Table Tennis (HiTT) is Hoboken’s first social ping pong club. It is passion project founded by husband and wife, Adam and Sophie Hugh. The table tennis power couple represented their respective national teams for over a decade and met playing the sport many many years ago. With Hoboken now being their home, they want to give back and add to the community in a way they know best. Their goal is to bring people together through the sport and get paddles in more people’s hands. Come on over!
HiTT with one of our pros!
Sophie Hugh represented New Zealand in the sport of table tennis for well over a decade, as one of the top female players in the nation – even from the age of 13 when she was first ranked among the top 10 women in the country.
Hugh competed in multiple continental events, World Cadet, Junior and Senior Championships, Commonwealth Games, World University Games and was one of the leading competitors domestically across her playing career. 18 gold medals in individual events at the New Zealand Open across her career, which along with her team titles, marks over 2 dozen national titles to her name.
Apart from being one of the top athletes during her playing career, she is also a qualified coach by the International Table Tennis Federation and also has the credentials to educate coaches under the ITTF Coaching Certification Program.
For all athletes, coaches are at the core of developing and improving. They are the essential ingredient in learning skills in any sport.
Lily Yip is a 2-time Olympian and former Olympic Team Coach. She has been voted National Coach of the Year 4 times and was inducted into the USA Table Tennis Hall of Fame in 2004.
Alex has been playing for over 13 years and have spent nearly half of that time coaching as well. He started playing at 8 years old and has loved the game ever since! His goal is to increase the popularity of this fantastic sport and help the community grow alongside the members of HiTT.
